1878 - Cal McVey helps lead his club over the Providence Grays with a two-run blast at Avenue Grounds. McVey's shot sailed over left fielder Tom York and struck a hitching post for horses. Final score 2-0.

1967 - Jim Bunning shuts down the Reds offense, surrendering on two hits. However, it the two hits would be enough to beat his Phillies club when Vada Pinson doubles in the 7th inning, and scored on a ground out and a fly out. Final score, 1-0.

1970 - In Montreal the Reds defeat the Expos, 4-3, in 11 innings. Lee May's two-run homer breaks the 2-2 tie. Pete Rose gets his 1,500th career hit in the game as well.

1976 - The Reds' Pete Rose ties the game up in the 9th inning when Phillies catcher Bob Boone has a passed ball and Rose hustles home from second base. Both clubs score in the 13th inning and Ken Griffey ends the dead lock by driving home the winning run in the 15th.

1998 - The Reds defeat the defending World Series champion Florida Marlins, 7-5. It would be the 89th loss of the season by Florida, setting the record for the most losses by a defending world champion. The 1991 Reds held the dubious record at 88 until this game.
