1879 - The Reds and Chicago
White Stockings attempt to play a makeup game
but Cincinnati refuses due to a major downpour
of rain. Chicago, who was upset, appoints
someone from their traveling party as umpire and
then he declares the game a 9-0 forfeit by the
Reds. Chicago's chicanery eventually works
because the game would be placed in the books
until the December meeting of the National
League. |

National League Reds defeat the Giants, 7-4.
During the game, Giant Bob Barr is hit by a ball
accidentally hit on the head by a ball thrown
back over the grandstand after it is was fouled
out of play. |

the last-place Reds by going 6-for-6‚ with 3
singles‚ 2 doubles and a triple‚ as Cincy wins
the first game‚ 17-3‚ of a doubleheader against
Boston. |

drives in two runs on a single and triple. |

Reds Jim Maloney outpitches Giants Juan Marichal
to win‚ 4-0. Maloney allows just 2 hits. |

1970 - The Reds' Jim Merritt
strikes out 13 Mets batters and grabs a 5-1 win.
Merrrit would be the only 20 game winner during
the Big Red Machine era. |

Russell makes his major league debut for the
Reds and hurling a 3-hitter‚ beating the Padres‚

rogue Reds of the American Association play
their "farewell game" in Cincinnati, losing to
the Boston Reds, 7-1. Future Hall of Famer Clark
