6th inning, Joe Nuxhall strikes out 10 Braves as
the Reds win 4-3 to move into 2nd place. The 3rd
strike to Crandall gets by catcher Dutch
Dotterer‚ giving Nuxhall the chance for the 4th
strike. |

Jay fans 13 Dodgers as the Reds win‚ 4-2. |

1976 - In Chicago, the Cubs
take a commanding 10-1 lead. However it wouldn't
be enough against the Big Red Machine. The Reds
scores 2 runs in the 6th‚ 4 in the 7th‚ one in
the 8th and 2 runs in the 9th. Ken Griffey's
2-run homer in the 9th ties the game. The Reds
continue scoring with 3 in the 10th off Bill
Bonham to hand the win to Pat Zachry. Final
score 13-10. |

1984 - Cincinnati are whipped
by the Astros at Riverfront Stadium, 8-2. Before
the game, the Reds retired number 5 for Johnny
Bench. The same number had been retired in 1940
in honor of Willard Hershberger, who committed
suicide during the season. The number was
reactivated in 1942. |

1986 - Pete Rose singles four
times and doubles to set a National League
record with his 10th 5-hit game‚ breaking Max
Carey's mark. Rose has three RBI's but the Reds
still lose to the Giants, 13-4. |

1994 - At Riverfront Stadium ,
the Reds are shutout by the Dodgers, 2-0. It
would be the final game of the season. A
player's strike would wipe out the remainder of
the season. Cincinnati would finish in first
place with a half game lead over the Astros. |
