1889 - At American Park, the Reds demolish the Orioles, 20-0. Cincinnati's offense collected a total of twenty seven hits in the match and Reds base runners swiped five bases. Hugh Nicol collected five singles and Bid McPhee scored four runs. Jesse Duryea pitched the shutout.
-
1944 - The Boston Braves hurler Red Barrett gives up only two singles all game and is never behind on a batter as he shuts down the Reds with an impressive 2-0 win. Barrett only needed to hurl 58 pitches to do so. This is the major league record for fewest pitches in a 9-inning game. The game only took one hour and 15 minutes‚ the fastest night game ever.
-
1956 - The Redlegs Ed Bailey does his team proud with a grand slam and guides his team to an 8-1 victory over the Milwaukee Braves. The win moves Cincinnati into 2nd place, a half game behind the Braves.
-
1981 - After a month and a half player's strike, the season restarts with the Reds losing to the Dodgers by a score of 4-0. Major League Baseball decides to split the season in half, with the first half winners playing the second half winners in a division series at the end of the season to determine the division winner. Due to this silly format, the Athletics, Phillies, Yankees and Dodgers are guaranteed a playoff spot in these division series no matter how poorly they due during the second half of the season.
-
2004 - In Great American Ball Park Adam Dunn crushes what is believed to be the longest homerun in major league history. It measured 535 feet and carried over the batter's eye, beyond centerfield, bounced onto Mehring Way 20 feet beyond the ballpark and lands on a piece of driftwood in the Ohio River. Since the river is actually claimed by Kentucky‚ the homer is probably the first in ML history to carry into another state.

2012 - On an extremely windy day at Wrigley Field, the first place Reds snap a five-game losing streak, defeating the Cubs, 10-8. Reds' Ryan Ludwig collects 3 hits and scores 4 runs. Chicago commits 5 errors and both clubs rack up a total of 28 hits.
