1905 - After six seasons of pitching an average
of 317 innings, the Reds release their 26 year
old
ace Noodles Hahn. Noodles won 122 games and
led the National League in strikeouts three
times. Hahn's arm trouble caught up with him
forcing the move. |

1917 - Cincinnati purchases
Sherry Magee from the Braves. |

1919 - At Redland Field‚ the Reds defeat the
Giants 6-2 and take over
first place‚ a spot they will not
relinquish for the rest of the season. |

1959 - At Crosley Filed, pitcher Bob Purkey hits a grand slam off
Johnny Buzhardt of the Cubs and helps guide the
Reds to a 12-3 win. |

1974 - At Candlestick‚ Johnny Bench breaks a 7-7
tie with a two-run homer to give the Reds a 9-7
victory over the Giants. |

1978 - The Reds lose in a big
way to the Braves by a score of 16-4. The game
also saw the end of Pete Rose's hitting streak
at forty four. |

1981 - After the players strike was resolved,
the Reds begin a week-long training regimen at
the University of Michigan to get ready for the
second half of the season. The team will work
out on Ray Fisher Field‚ named after a former
Red who threw for the Reds on their first World
Series club (1919). |
