1875
- News reports surface that the Boston Red
Stockings are going to disband and see Harry
Wright return to Cincinnati to form a new club.
The reports prove to be false but a new club is
formed without Wright and will play in the
inaugural season (1876) of a new league called
National League. |

1916 - The Reds trade Buck
Herzog and Red Killefer to the Giants for three
future Hall of Famers in pitcher Christy
Mathewson, center fielder Edd Roush and third

the best part of this deal. Mathewson, who was
initially a Reds product in 1900 until they
traded the youngster to the Giants, was finished
as a pitcher but returned to Cincinnati as a
manager. Bill McKechnie was an average player
but would go on to be great manager with the
Pirates, Braves and Reds. But Roush improved the
club right then and their, spending most of his
career with the club. |

the Cardinals where he would spend 18 years
winning pennants and World Series titles. |
