1870 - The Red Stockings
narrowly defeat Harvard University with a score
of 20-17. Cincinnati, behind 17-12, by scoring
eight runs, rallies in the 9th inning by scoring
eight runs. Harry Wright hits a bases loaded
double while Doug Allison drives in the winning
run. |

1878 - At Avenue Grounds, the
Reds defeat the first place Bostons by a score
of 4-1. Rookie Mike Kelly scored the tying run
on a muffed play by left fielder Leonard in the
4th inning. Kelly would score the go-ahead run
in the 6th inning as well. The victory would
pull the Reds within a game and half of first
place. |

1930 - In Philadelphia, the
Reds hammer the Phillies, 13-6. Bob Meusel
collects five of the thirteen runs for
Cincinnati. |

1947 - At the Polo Grounds, the
Giants embarrass the Reds, defeating the club,
8-3. New York's Willard Marshall drills three
homeruns in the match, all consecutively. |

1950 - The Reds defeat the
Giants by a score of 1-0. Cincinnati's Virgil
Stallcup scores the only run with a
round-tripper in the 3rd inning. |

1961 - In the middle of a six
game losing streak, the Reds drop number three
at Crosley Field to the Braves by a score of
13-4. During the game, Milwaukee's Hank Aaron,
Joe Adcock and Joe Torre pull off a triple
steal. Aaron would score. |

1964 - At Crosley Field the
Reds defeat the Phillies, 14-4. Pete Rose
hammers his only career grand slam and drives in
six runs overall. |

1969 - In Cincinnati the Reds
defeat the Astros by a score of 10-9 in extra
innings. Cincinnati, down by nine runs in
entering the 6th, rallies when Cincinnati scores
in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings. In the 8th the
Reds score six runs to tie it up. Ted Savage
drives in the winning run off of future Red Jack
Billingham. |
