1875
- It was announced that a new professional Red
Stockings club was to be formed and work on a
new ballpark would begin. The ballpark would
come to be known as Avenue Grounds and would
house a major league baseball club from 1876 to
1879. |

|
1882 - At Newington Park the
first place Reds edge the Orioles by a score of
1-0. Henry Luff scores the only run for
Cincinnati in the 5th Inning. During the 4th
inning umpire Mike Walsh is surrounded by angry
fans on the field after he declared a hit by
Charlie Waitt a foul ball. Walsh retreated into
Baltimore's clubhouse for awhile until order was
restored. |

1905 - The Reds lose to the
Braves by a score of 6-1. A second game was
scheduled to be played but was cancelled on
account of the immense heat. |

1907 - At the Polo Grounds the
Reds lose to the Giants by a score of 4-0.
Christy Mathewson gives up eleven runs to the
Reds but holds onto the shutout. |

1918 - At Redland Field,
Cincinnati sweeps the Dodgers in a double
header, 3-1 and 4-2. Heinie Groh goes 4-for-8 in
the two games. |

1925 - At Braves Field,
Cincinnati defeats Boston by a score of 4-1.
Reds' right fielder pulls off an unassisted
double play. It would be his fourth of his
career. |

1941 - The Reds and Braves
split a double header at Braves Field. Elmer
Riddle shuts out the Braves, 4-0 while Boston
edges the Reds in game two, 6-5. |

1966 - The Reds fire manager
Don Heffner and replaces him with thirty-three
year old Dave Bristol. |

- |
|
1973 - The Reds edge the Mets
by a score of 2-1. Cactus Jack allows just two
hits in the winning effort. Tom Seaver is the
losing pitcher for New York. |

1975 - At Riverfront Stadium
the Reds defeat the Mets, 5-3. Cincinnati
collects four runs in the 8th inning off of Tom
Seaver. It would be the forty first victory for
the Big Red Machine in their last fifty games. |

1976 - All Star Game.
Cincinnati sends seven players to the Midsummer
Classic in Philadelphia with George Foster
walking away with MVP honors in the 7-1 NL
victory. |

1982 - All Star Game. The NL
defeats the AL by a score of 4-1 in it's
eleventh consecutive victory. Reds' Dave
Concepcion hits a two-run shot in the 2nd inning
in the winning cause. |

1988 - The Reds send Tracy
Jones and Pat Pacillo to the Expos for Jeff
Reed, Herm Winninghan and Randy St. Claire. |

1997 - At Cinergy Field the
Reds lose to the Expos by a score of 2-0.
Montreal pitcher Pedro Martinez throws a
one-hitter giving up a hit to Brett Boone in the
5th inning. |

2006 - The Reds send outfielder
Austin Kearns, shortstop Felipe Lopez and
pitcher Ryan Wagner to Washington for pitchers
Gary Majewski, Bill Bray & Daryl Thompson and
shortstop Royce Clayton and infielder Brendan
Harris. The trade was suspicious by many people
and was later revealed that Majewski was damaged
goods and Cincinnati felt that the Nat's GM,
former Reds GM Jim Bowden, withheld information
crucial to the trade. |
