1867 - At the Union Grounds,
Cincinnati hammers the Live Oaks Base Ball Club
by a score of 56-18. It would be the club's
sixth straight victory. |

1869 - In Rockford, the Red
Stockings come from back from an eight run
deficit to tie the game against Forest City. The
game is called at 16-16 due to darkness. |

1886 - The Reds lose to
Brooklyn at League Park by a score 11-7. During
the game a riot breaks out with fans throwing
mugs and other objects. Umpire George Bradley
was hit by a thrown mugs and retreated into
cover. He would return to finish the game. |

1887 - Reds star Charley Jones
is sold to the Mets for $1,000. Jones was on the
tail end of his career, mainly because he was
unable to adjust to the quick rules changes of
the game. Players were able to tell the pitcher
where to hurl the ball. In 1887 a new
strike-zone rule eliminating that part of the
game and Jones was unable to call for high
pitches which he use to feast on. |

1902 - Cincinnati star Bid
McPhee steps down as manager of the woeful Reds
and is replaced by business manager Frank
Bancroft. Bancroft led the Providence Grays to
the National League pennant in 1884 and defeated
the New York Mets, American Association
champions, in what is considered the first World
Series. |

1919 - At Braves Field the Reds
defeat Boston, 4-2, in 13 innings. Heinie Groh
hits two homeruns and Bill Rariden hits a homer
when his hit bounced into a opening of the
scoreboard. The scoreboard operator forgot to
close one of the openings for the inning. |

1920 - The defending World
Champion Reds defeat the Braves by a score of
6-3. Jake Daubert hits the game winning homerun
in the bottom of the 9th with two outs.
Daubert's homer was a bounce home run, predating
the ground ruled double. |

1937 - The Reds sweep the
Cardinals in a double headers, shutting the
Redbirds out in both games. Final scores were
6-0 and 7-0. Pitchers Peaches Davis and Al
Hollingsworth get the shutouts. |

1938 - The Reds defeat the
Cardinals in St. Louis by a score of 9-5.
Cincinnati developed a nice lead when they
scored eight runs in the 1st inning. |

1948 - In St. Louis the Reds
shutout the Cardinals, 1-0, behind the one-hit
outing by Cincinnati pitcher Ken Raffensberger. |

1963 - At Crosley Field the
Reds and Cubs split a pair with Chicago taking
the first match in 11 innings by a score of 7-0
and Cincinnati taking the closing game, 7-3.
Reds' pitcher strikes out thirteen batters. |

1983 - Dick Wagner is fired as
the Reds general manager. |

2002 - The Reds send outfielder
Juan Encarnacion, infielder Wilton Guerrero and
minor league pitcher Ryan Snare to the Marlins
for pitcher Ryan Dempster. The trade took place
before a Dempster bobble head giveaway in Miami.
15,000 bobble heads probably should have been
included in the deal. |
