1876 - At 23rd Street Grounds
in Chicago, the Reds lose to the White
Stockings, 6-0. It would be the first National
League game played in the Windy City. |

1877 - After three days of rain,
the Reds finally kick off their second major
league season with a 15-9 victory over the
Louisville Grays. Cincinnati was suppose to open
at home but the rain pushed their opener to the
road. Jim Devlin got the loss while Bobby
Mathews received the win. |

1888 - At American Park, the Reds defeat the
Browns in ten innings by a score of 7-1.
Cincinnati erupted in the top of the extra
inning for the victory. George Tebeau kicked off
everything off with a hit. Hick Carpenter followed.
Elmer Smith's hit scored Tebeau and Carpenter,
the go-ahead runs. Four more runs would follow. |

1889 - At American Park, the
Reds shut down the Athletics, 10-0.
Shortstop, Ollie Beard, hit two triples and one
double in the match. Rookie, Jesse Duryea
pitched the shutout. |

1894 - The Reds defeat the
Browns, 18-9. The Brown's hitters Frank Shugart,
George Miller and Heinie Peitz hit
back-to-back-to-back homeruns. It would be the
second time in major league history such a thing
happened. |

1910 - The Reds defeat the
Phillies by a score of 8-6. In the first inning
Grant, Magee and Bransfield pull of a triple
steal in the 1st inning for Philadelphia. |

1947 - At Crosley Field Ewell
Blackwell shuts down the Cubs, 5-1. The victory
would begin a sixteen game winning streak that
would last until July 25th. |

1970 - In Chicago, the Reds
come from behind and defeat the Cubs after Rose
hits a two run homer in the ninth inning. Final
score was 7-6. |
