1891 - The National League buys
the Reds from new owner Albert Johnson. Johnson
had planned to move the club to the Players
League. When the PL collapsed, he committed to
move the club to the American Association. The
league the club began in. With the NL buying the
club back, the AA vows to keep the Cincinnati
market and relegates a new franchise to
Cincinnati. |

1963 - In Tampa‚ non-roster
player Pete Rose makes his first appearance with
the Reds in a game against the White Sox. Rose
doubled twice in two at bats. He enters in the
9th inning‚ and hits in the 11th and 14th‚
scoring the game's only run. |

1891 - The American Association
commits a new franchise to Cincinnati. This club
would become the fourth franchise the local
media would dub "The Reds". History would refer
to this club as Kelly's Killers. Named in owner
of the team captain Mike Kelly. |

At the Cincinnati Gardens the Royals, vying for
a playoff spot in the new Central Division,
upsets the defending champion New York Knicks in
overtime, 120-118. Tom Van Arsdale, rookie Sam
Lacey and guard Norm Van Lier pace the team with
over 20 points a piece. |
