Welcome to
the official website for the Cincinnati Hockey Hall of
Fame.
Cincinnati's hockey history dates back to the 1949
opening of the Cincinnati Gardens, when an exhibition
hockey game was the first event held there. The
Cincinnati Hockey Hall of Fame honors those who have
been a significant part of the history and development
of hockey in Cincinnati.
Since the inception of the Cincinnati Hockey Hall of Fame
in 2003, annual inductions were held as a joint effort by the Gardens Hockey
organization and the Hall of Fame nonprofit committee. The Cincinnati Mighty
Ducks hockey club contributed their staff's time and talent, and covered all
expenses to hold the annual event. Since then, the nonprofit foundation is
continuing to develop to be able to maintain the hall of fame for the future.
The Cincinnati Gardens continues to operate the Legends Museum where the Hall of
Fame plaques are displayed.
The inductions have been held as close as possible to the anniversary date of
the opening of the Cincinnati Gardens in February of 1949. Our inductees include
players, coaches, team executives, and members of the media who covered local
hockey.
For the 2003 inductions, the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks
players wore retro Cincinnati Swords jerseys during
their regular season game. The American Hockey League
(AHL) allowed the team to wear the sweaters without
player names on the back to be authentic to the Swords
era of the 1970's. The jerseys were then auctioned
postgame with proceeds going to charity. A Cincinnati
Swords commemorative banner was raised during the
induction ceremony and still hangs in the main arena at
the Gardens. |
