Cincinnati's dormant American Hockey League
franchise is headed to Canada.
The sale of Cincinnati RailRaiders was approved
by the AHL Monday, and the team formerly owned
by Gardens Hockey, Inc., is being bought by a
group in Windsor, Ontario.
The team that played for eight seasons at the
Cincinnati Gardens under the name the Cincinnati
Mighty Ducks will begin play in Windsor in a new
6,500-seat multi-purpose facility in the 2008-09
season. The sale kills any remaining hope that
the Cincinnati Gardens will field a high-caliber
hockey team anytime soon.
The former Cincinnati Mighty Ducks were renamed
the RailRaiders after losing their affiliation
with the Anaheim Ducks after the 2004-05 season.
After failing to secure another parent club, the
RailRaiders went dormant. |
