The uniforms of the 1891
Association Reds were similar to
the 1891 National League Reds
club. Home jerseys were white
with red trim and red stockings. |

The Association Reds' road
uniforms were dark blue with red
stockings. Both of the home and
road jersey were laced.
We believe that the uniforms had
red lettering on the road
jerseys but we cannot confirm
it. |

Mike Kelly
pushed Reds ownership to dress
his club in green stockings. A
color that was seldom used in
baseball uniforms at the time.
The owners refused.
However,
Mike Kelly disobeyed club orders
and dressed his club in green
stockings for a number of away
games played in April. By the
time the club made their home
debut, the color was dropped for
red stockings.
Major league baseball uniforms
for the most part continued to
omit green from their uniforms
with the exception of the 1910
Phillies and 1937 Dodgers. It
wasn't until 1963 when the
Kansas City Athletics picked up
the color and permanently
adopted it. |
