Kelly's "Hustlers" Worsted In the Monumental City.
Cincinnati Commercial Gazette
07-05-1891

Kelly put in Crane again for the second game, but he seemed to be unable to get the ball over the plate, and the first two men got their bases and scored on errors and Werden's scratch hit. In the second Robinson was hit by the ball, Bakely sacrificed, Welch and Van Haltren made hits, Ray sent out a long fly on which Robinson scored, while bad throwing let Welch home. Robinson scored again in the fifth, getting his base on balls and coming home on a succession of errors. Johnson's single and Bakely's double yielded another in the sixth, while two singles, two bases on balls and a sacrifice brought in three more in the seventh.

The Reds made a run in the second inning, Johnston getting first on Gilbert's poor throw, going to third on Carney's scratch hit and scoring on
Werden's wild throw. Andrews' single and Canavan's double brought in their second and last run in the fifth. The Reds were in bad luck having numerous chances to score, but strong fielding and inability to hit at the right time prevented them. Gilbert's pretty catches and Johnston's capture of a sky scraper were the leading features of the second game.
