- News reports surface that the Boston Red
Stockings are going to disband and see Harry
Wright return to Cincinnati to form a new club.
The reports prove to be false but a new club is
formed without Wright and will play in the
inaugural season (1876) of a new league called
National League. |

- At Avenue Grounds the lowly Reds defeat the
first place Boston Red Caps by a score of 13-11.
Pitcher Will White makes his major league debut
and gets the loss. White is the first known
player to wear glasses during games. |

- In Cincinnati the slumping Reds are nipped by
the first place Boston club by a score of 1-0.
Despite the loss, the Cincinnati Enquirer
reported that "the absence of the 'alogging'
hits was made up by a beautiful exhibition of
field play". |

- In Indianapolis, the Reds defeat the Hoosiers, 17-5, behind
five Charley Jones hits and three triples. Jones
became the first Red to hit three triples in a
game. The victory would pull Cincinnati within
two games of first place. |
